Polar Bear Season

This weekend was very relaxing. Friday night we played Bingo and Suzanne won Jack pot! Someone else ended up winning as well so they had to split it but she still won $750.00. Woohoo!

Saturday and Sunday I was sick with a sniffly nose, headache and chills, so most of the morning I snuggled up and watched movies. I was staring out the window and a truck drove by with a dead polar bear in the back!!

It is polar bear season in Whale Cove. On Oct.31st each household is put into a draw, they draw for a tag. Each household that is pulled in the draw has 3 days to catch a bear and then it is passed on to the next household that is drawn. 2 bears have been caught since the draw. Both bears were caught very close to town - 1 was found at the dump and 1 was close to the airport. Polar are bears are definitely not an endangered species, in fact they are very numerous and are a threat to the communities if they come close to the town.

This Friday my Dad comes to visit Whale Cove! So excited! I feel so lucky to have such an amazing family that gives up their time to come visit me up here! :)
